'High-energy objects' destroyed flight MH17, says Dutch report

  • A large number of “high-energy objects” caused the instant destruction of Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 when it was flying over eastern Ukraine, leading to the plane breaking apart and the parts falling down, a preliminary report by the Dutch Safety Board has said.

The report does not give any indication about what the objects might have been or their origin, saying that investigators did not get access to the crash site owing to the security situation in eastern Ukraine.

All 298 passengers and crew on board the flight were killed. A majority of the victims were Dutch nationals.
