Greek leaders reject coalition bid
May 14 , 2012
Greece’s moderate Democratic Left party has said it will not join pro-bailout parties in a coalition without the radical far-left Syriza.
Greek President Karolos Papoulias has called on the four main parties, including the centre-right New Democracy and the socialist Pasok to attempt to form a unity government.
Syriza said it would not be a part of the talks, as it could not support a government that backed austerity.
Last Sunday’s elections saw voters support parties opposed to severe austerity measures.
If the president’s attempts fail, elections are likely to be held again next month.
EU leaders are expected to meet later in the day to discuss the Greek crisis.
