Governor of Afghanistan's province killed
October 16 , 2013
Arsallah Jamal, who was President Hamid Karzai's campaign manager during the time of the presidential elections in 2009 was killed in a blast.
The 47-year old was marking the beginning of the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha at the time of the blast, which also critically injured five people.
There had previously been several attempts on his life and no group has claimed responsibility for the attack as of yet; the Taliban denied being involved.
Jamal had become the governor of Logar only recently and a member of the provincial council referred to this assassination as being an "act carried out by the enemies of Islam and Afghanistan." He said the perpetrators "do not want Afghans to live in peace."
