Giriraj Kishore, hardline Hindu leader, dies
July 14 , 2014
Giriraj Kishore, a senior functionary of the hardline Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), a right-wing Indian outfit, died at the age of 94.
Born in 1920 in what is today Uttar Pradesh state, he was the vice-president of VHP and a public face of a controversial campaign to build a temple for the Hindu god Ram in Ayodhya, a holy town in Uttar Pradesh.
Kishore joined the Hindu nationalist organisation, RSS, at a young age and became part of the VHP in the early 1980s.
