German Lawmakers Defend Right To Circumcision
December 13 , 2012
German lawmakers put the lid on months of legal debate and uncertainty caused by a regional court's ruling that pronounced that male circumcision is equivalent to bodily harm. Germany passed a law defending parents' right to have their sons circumcised. The law was passed in Germany’s lower house of Parliament, the Bundestag, after a 434 to 100 vote with 46 members abstaining from the vote. The law protects the rights of German Jews and Muslims who look up to the practice as a revered ritual.
