Gaza conflict: Israel targets Rafah, 50 killed
August 2 , 2014
The Israeli military bombarded Rafah town after one of its soldiers was reportedly captured by Palestinian fighters as a ceasefire between the two sides collapsed in a matter of hours.
According to Israel, Hamas misused the temporary truce brokered by the United Nations and US, and targeted Israeli soldiers near a tunnel outside Rafah in southern Gaza, killing two soldiers and seizing Second Lieutenant Hadar Goldin.
In response, Israel’s bombardment of Rafah killed at least 50 Palestinians. The military wing of Hamas, however, issued a statement claiming that it was not aware of the whereabouts of the missing soldier.
