French local elections: Exit polls indicate victory for Conservative UMP Party
March 30 , 2015
The Conservative UMP Party in France, together with its allies, has come first in the last round of local elections, according to exit polls.
Nicolas Sarkozy’s party may have bagged about 65 local councils, with the far-right National Front (FN) also winning a number of seats, the exit polls indicated.
The results are, however, a setback for the ruling Socialists, who could lose up to 30 departments.
French Prime Minister Manual Valls said that voters had declared their “anger at a daily life that is too difficult”, adding that his government would focus on creating more jobs.
