Four killed in Brazil prison riots

  • Rioting prisoners in a jail in south Brazil’s Cascavel city killed four inmates, police said.

While two victims had been decapitated, many injuries were also reported.

The inmates are protesting against the functioning of the jail and the state of food and hygiene, reports said. Around 700 prisoners are reportedly taking part in the violent protests.

Brazil has around 500,000 prisoners housed in jails that are meant for only 300,000 inmates, reports say.
