Forbidden city to limit tourism

  • A week after Michelle Obama's tour to the Forbidden City in Beijing, China announced that the city will limit tourism since the traffic seems to be damaging it.

Reports suggest that the former imperial palace is visited by over 14 million people each year, with nearly 122k on a single day despite the fact that its capacity has been estimated to be 60k.

Annual ticket holders won't be allowed to visit the site, which is already closed for renovations a day each week. Reuters notes that tourism in relation to damage is a more modern issue.
