Football Match at Senegal's Demba Diop Stadium turns Deadly, 8 Dead and Over 49 Injured

After the League Cup final between Stade de Mbour and Union Sportive Ouakam at Demba Diop stadium of Senegal’s capital city Dakar, fighting erupted between rival fans. Police responded by firing tear gas, leading to stone pelting, panic, wall collapse, and stampede. The ill-fated incident left 8 people dead and more than 49 injured. Images circulating online show people scrambling to mount a low wall with clouds of gas all around. Fire-fighters and ambulances reportedly reached the place promptly. President Macky Sall told media that to pay respect to the dead, campaigning for upcoming elections will be suspended on Sunday.
