Fleeing migrants tainting country's image, should be punished: Bangladeshi PM
May 25 , 2015
Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that those trying to leave the country using “illegal” means ought to be punished together with human smugglers who help them flee.
The comments come as the Southeast Asian region grapples with an emergency situation, with thousands of Burmese and Bangladeshi migrants still stranded at sea.
Hasina said that the migrants escaping Bangladesh were “tainting the image of the country” besides endangering their own lives.
