Fatah and Hamas reach deal on Gaza unity government
September 26 , 2014
Fatah and Hamas, the two Palestinian factions, have agreed to hand over Gaza’s civil administration to a unity government headed by Mahmoud Abbas, reports say.
The “comprehensive” agreement is aimed at easing the blockade of Gaza imposed by Israel and Egypt and pave the way for the reconstruction of the battered coastal strip.
According to some estimates, rebuilding Gaza after the devastating 50-day war with Israel could cost up to $8bn.
Negotiations for the deal have been spearheaded by Cairo.
