Fast-thinking doctors attached patient's hand to foot
December 17 , 2013
Doctors in China temporarily reattached a patient's hand to his foot in an attempt to save it. A work accident, which cut off Xiao Wei's hand left him "shocked and frozen on the spot."
He was taken to a hospital but local doctors couldn't be of much help. He was then given a second look at a regional facility.
"His injury was severe," a doctor said. Experts attached his hand to his ankle in order to keep it alive as they performed a surgery on him. Reports suggest that such procedures are not unheard of but most doctors attach the hand to the armpit instead.
Even if the procedure is successful, some patients ask for an amputation since the limb may continue to cause them pain.
