Farc peace talks suspended after general's abduction
November 17 , 2014
Peace talks with Farc rebels have been suspended by the Colombian government after the reported abduction of a top army officer.
The rebels abducted Brig Gen Ruben Dario Alzate Mora in Choco province in the north on Sunday, November 16. Juan Manuel Santos, Colombia’s president, has called for the safe release of the general.
Two years of talks between the government and Farc have not yet yielded a ceasefire.
Alzate was reportedly travelling in boat along Atrato river and halted at a village when he and two others were taken captive.
