EU Negotiator Says UK Divorce Bill May Collapse Brexit Talks

  • As per reports, the chief Brexit negotiator of the European Union, Michel Barnier, expressed his fear of the member states who may refuse to lighten their demands over the size of Britain’s “divorce bill” as this could lead to collapse of the Brexit talks and UK may leave the EU without a deal.

Barnier reportedly mentioned to the commission president, Jean-Claude Juncker, as well as other senior officials that the stakes are much higher as Berlin and Paris do not want to pay more to cover the UK’s departure from EU.

Thursday’s meeting discussed EU’s hope to organize negotiations in four-week cycles.

Reports further revealed that EU’s high representative for foreign affairs, Federica Mogherini, dismissed UK’s hope of using security cooperation as an opportunity for a better deal.
