Erdogan officially takes over as president of Turkey

Recep Tayyip Erdogan was sworn in as the president of Turkey after his election victory as the head of state.
He pledged to “safeguard the existence and independence of the state” and laid a wreath at the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of the modern Turkish nation.
Erdogan, who has served as prime minister thrice, intends to make the presidential post more powerful.
Ahmet Davutoglu, the outgoing foreign minister, is set to be the prime minister after being chosen as head of the ruling AK party.
