Election campaigning begins in Myanmar
September 8 , 2015
Election campaigning has started in Myanmar. According to media reports, this development comes two months ahead of the first openly-contested general election, which is being held after a span of 25 years. It is expected that the National League for Democracy, which is led by Aung San Suu Kyi will win majority of the seats. The ruling military-backed party is predicted to suffer losses. Suu Kyi, who is standing for parliament, is barred from becoming the country's president. More than 90 parties will be contesting in the first national polls.
