March 26 , 2014
Egypt launched another mass trial after sentencing 529 people to death. The country has now accused 683 members of Muslim Brotherhood of crimes such as inciting violence and murder. The number also includes top spiritual leader of Brotherhood Mohammed Badie.
The number of defendants present in court were only 68 and some were kept outside for reasons related to security. Moreover, several defense lawyers boycotted the trial after protesting yesterday's sentencing.
"This judge smashed the rock of justice with his own hands," a lawyer said. "He is inventing new law."
The newly charged are accused of killing two policemen.
