Edward Snowden gets 3-year residency in Russia
August 8 , 2014
Russia has granted US whistle-blower, Edward Snowden, a three-year extension to his residency, according to media reports.
Snowden, who leaked information about NSA spy programs to the media, had formally requested the Russian government to extend his asylum. His attorney, Anatoly Kucherena, told the media that the request was accepted.
A spokesperson for the US National Security Council said regardless of the extension granted to him, the former NSA contractor “faces felony charges here in the United States."
