Edgar Lungu, Zambia's defence minister, wins presidential poll

  • Edgar Lungu, Zambia's defense and justice minister, has won the country’s presidential polls, according to media reports.

    According to the election commission Lungu, the Patriotic Front leader, won by a majority of 48.3% vote. Hakainde Hichilema from the United Party for National Development was a close second with 46.7%.

    Hichilema claimed on Saturday, January 24, that the election process was a fraud.  

    Lungu has indicated that he will complete the development projects started by President Michael Sata, who died in October.
