ECOWAS troops arrive in Guinea Bissau
May 18 , 2012
The first group of a West African peacekeeping force has landed in Guinea Bissau in a bid to boost stability following last month’s coup.
Around 70 soldiers from Burkina Faso have been deployed by regional bloc ECOWAS.
A total of 600 troops are expected to arrive in the nation over the next week.
Guinea Bissau was just weeks away from holding a presidential run-off vote when a military junta took over.
