Denmark: Protestors Vandalised Copenhagen's Little Mermaid Statue
July 4 , 2020
Copenhagen's Little Mermaid statue in the entrance has been named as "racist fish." The 107-year-old statue was vandalized by protestors who were demonstrating for pro-democracy and anti-whaling campaigners. Protestors have beheaded the statue, lopped off an arm, and poured paint over it. Sculpted by Edvard Erikson, this statue was created as a tribute to celebrate fairytale by Hans Christian Andersen about a mythical sea king's mermaid daughter. This is not the first time when a statue was vandalized. During Black Lives Matter, historical figures were razed off the ground, which was linked to slavery and racism.
