Deadly quake hits Iran's Bushehr province

  • At least 37 people have died and some 850 injured after a 6.3 magnitude earthquake hit southwest Iran on Tuesday.

The quake struck at 4:22 pm local time, 60 miles south of the country's sole nuclear power station in Bushehr province, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).

The nuclear plant was not affected.

Iran's nuclear program has raised concerns among major Western powers in relation to Tehran building nuclear weapons, a charge that Iran denies.

Iran lies across a major geological fault line, making it susceptible to seismic activity.

In 2003, an earthquake rocked the city of Bam, leaving more than 25,000 people dead.
