Cyclone Hudhud heads towards south-east India

  • Indian authorities are planning to evacuate people as Cyclone Hudhud heads towards the country’s south-east coast, according to media reports.

The storm, being called “severe” by forecasters, is likely to hit the states of Orissa and Andhra Pradesh on Sunday. The cyclone could see wind speeds of up to 87mph.

A year ago, 500,000 people were evacuated when Cyclone Phailin hit the two states - Andhra Pradesh and Orissa. In 1999, a devastating cyclone killed at least 10,000 people in Orissa.
