Countries Agree to Implement Paris Climate Treaty at COP24 UN Summit

  • Delegates from 196 countries have met in Katowice (Poland) to discuss the ways of implementing the climate issues (agreed upon in Paris agreement) by 2020. 4 countries including the US, Russia, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia) objected to the meeting that welcomed the UN report urging to keep global temperature rise within 1.5°C. Negotiators at COP24 reportedly finalized a common rulebook on Sunday to implement the Paris goals so that the global temperature increase can be restricted well below the 2°C (or 3.6 °F). Michal Kurtyka, President of COP24 said “Putting together the Paris agreement work program is a big responsibility…We did our best to leave no-one behind.”
