February 4 , 2015
At least seven people were killed and 12 were injured in a collision between a commuter train and an SUV near New York on Tuesday, media reports said.
The accident at the Valhalla crossing is being described by US officials as the worst in the history of the Metro-North railroad.
Those killed included six people in the train, which was coming from Grand Central Station. The female driver of the Jeep Cheroke also died.
The train’s front carriage and the SUV caught fire and hundreds of passengers were forced to escape from the train’s rear. The service on the line was partially suspended and a probe has begun.
