Combating Terror: Australia announces toughening of citizenship laws
February 23 , 2015
Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott has announced that the country is toughening its citizenship laws to effectively combat rising terrorism threats.
He affirmed that the citizenship of people with dual nationality could be suspended or revoked if they are involved in terrorism.
Australia-born citizens could lose certain privileges too in case they violate anti-terrorism laws, the Prime Minister said.
Concerns over terrorist acts in Australia have increased after dozens of Australian nationals went to Iraq and Syria to fight for Islamic State.
