Christ statue in Rio damaged by lightening
January 19 , 2014
Storms are damaging the 125-statue of Christ built in Rio de Janeiro but father Omar Raposo mentioned that such strikes are common.
The lightening seems to have chipped away its right thumb after the middle finger was damaged just last month.
Reports suggest that the damages can be repaired since there still remains a stock of the stone, which was used to build it. Raposo said these strikes occur about six times every year.
The statue was also renovated in 2010 after parts of its face and hands were severely eroded.
