China to turn disputed South China Sea islands into tourism hotspots

China is planning to turn some of the islands in the disputed South China Sea into tourism hotspots. As per media reports, the Maldives style resorts would be built on islands that do not have a military presence. Xiao Jie, the mayor of Sansha city, said that he hopes the region would become a major tourist destination. The mayor further said that there would be island weddings, sea plane trips, fishing and diving trips on the islands.
