China seeks to Strengthen future COVID-19 Clinical Vaccine Trials, Wants to Develop Vaccine as "Global Public Good"

  • The Science and Technology Minister of China, Wang Zhigang, has said during a press conference in Beijing that developing a vaccine remains their fundamental strategy in overcoming the new coronavirus. He went on to say that when the vaccine becomes available, China will promote the development of a COVID-19 vaccine as a global public good. Wang’s statement reiterated Chinese President Xi Jinping’s announcement last month while addressing the World Health Assembly’s 73rd session. China has also pledged to provide $2 billion over a period of 2-years to help other developing countries in responding to COVID-19 pandemic. China seeks to strengthen international cooperation in future COVID-19 clinical vaccine trials.
