Category 5 Hurricane Maria wreaks havoc in Puerto Rico

  • Hurricane Maria slammed Puerto Rico on Wednesday with heavy winds and torrential rainfall. Hurricane Maria made landfall on Wednesday with sustained winds of 155mph (250kph) and in its wrath broke two National Weather Service radars. Dominica and Virgin Islands were devastated before Hurricane Maria wreaked havoc in Puerto Rico. Hurricane Maria has left entire Puerto Rico without power along with “collapsed” telecommunications. Flash Flooding warning for Arecibo Municipality, Jayuya Municipality and Utuado Municipality in Puerto Rico has been issued by the the National Weather Service in San Juan. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) called the storm an “extremely dangerous” Hurricane. Abner Gomez, Puerto Rico's Emergency management Director said, “we are facing a grave situation.” Hurricane Maria has left approximately 12,000 people in shelters. Wrath of Hurricane Maria destroyed hundreds of homes, triggered flooding and knocked out electrical power in Puerto Rico. Amidst chaos Governor Ricardo Rossello said, “power could be out for months.”
