Carles Puigdemont promises secession within 18 months

Carles Puigdemont has been voted as the new leader of the government in Catalonia by 70 votes in favor of 63. As per media reports, Puigdemont vowed to continue Artur Mas's plans to secede from Spain within 18 months. Artur Mas gave up his efforts to regain the regional presidency as another party refused to support him. Meanwhile, Mariano Rajoy, Prime Minister of Spain, has promised that he will fight for national unity.
