Call for probe after prolonged execution in Arizona
July 25 , 2014
Lawyers for Joseph Wood, the American murder convict whose execution took nearly two hours, have called for an independent probe into his killing by lethal injection.
Arizona senator John McCain, a supporter of the death penalty, described the prolonged execution as “torture.”
The state’s governor Jan Brewer has ordered jail officials to conduct a review of the execution. She said that she was concerned by the length of time it took for “the administered drug protocol to complete the lawful execution.”
