Call for probe after prolonged execution in Arizona

  • Lawyers for Joseph Wood, the American murder convict whose execution took nearly two hours, have called for an independent probe into his killing by lethal injection.

Arizona senator John McCain, a supporter of the death penalty, described the prolonged execution as “torture.”

The state’s governor Jan Brewer has ordered jail officials to conduct a review of the execution. She said that she was concerned by the length of time it took for “the administered drug protocol to complete the lawful execution.”
