Calif. Governor grants driver's license to illegal immigrants
October 4 , 2013
Gov. Jerry Brown of California has signed a bill on Thursday allowing illegal immigrants in the county to obtain driver's licenses.
Brown referred to California as being "a place of dreams." He mentioned that this change "isn't about politics. It's about the people who by their fervor, their faith and their numbers transformed California."
These cards will let the immigrants drive without the fear of being pulled over and subsequently deported but would not make them eligible for employment, voting or any such benefits.
The licenses will also be marked in a different manner and will not be considered valid identification; they are expected to start being issued Jan. 1 onwards.
