Bus drivers' murders disrupt life in El Salvador
July 31 , 2015
El Salvador’s government has provided police and army escorts for bus drivers after criminal gangs forced them to go on strike. In recent days, seven drivers who defied the gangs' diktat have been killed.
As most buses remain off roads, commuters in capital San Salvador have been forced to go to work on foot. The gangs want to be part of a commission that was set up to examine ways to curb urban violence, but the government has refused their demand.
