Burundi: Dozens killed as armed men attack army sites

  • Dozens of people have been killed in Burundi after three military sites were attacked, reports say.

The army put the death toll at 87 and said 49 people were captured. Bodies could be seen lying on the streets in the capital Bujumbura.

Burundi has been rocked by protests and violence since President Pierre Nkurunziza said he would run for a third term in office. He subsequently won a controversial election in July.

Authorities said heavily armed men launched coordinated attacks on army installations in Ngagara, Musaga and Mujejuru in the capital.
