Britain not putting enough pressure on China: Chris Patten

  • Chris Patten, the last British governor of Hong Kong, has said the UK was not putting sufficient pressure on China over the crisis in the city as it was concerned about trade ties being affected, as per media reports.

Speaking to a British inquiry, he said China’s claims that Hong Kong’s pro-democracy protests had nothing to do with Britain should be contested — and the UK should “make it absolutely clear publicly and privately that that is not the case”.
