Brazil becomes the 2nd Worst Affected Country with 330,890 COVID-19 Infections, WHO says South America is the New Epicenter

  • Brazil’s total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 coronavirus infection has become the second largest in this world, surpassing both the UK and Russia. Johns Hopkins University’s coronavirus tracker shows that there are more than 330,000 infection cases (330,890) and more than 21,000 deaths (21,048). The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that South America has become the new epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic. WHO also said that Brazil has more COVID-19 coronavirus cases that any other country in South America. The total number of confirmed COVID-19 coronavirus cases across the world is 5,213,557 and 338,232 deaths. The US remains the worst affected country in the world, with 1,601,434 infection cases and 96,007 deaths. Dr. Anthony Stephen Fauci (a leading immunologist and leading member of Trump Administration's White House Coronavirus Task Force) has said in an interview that the time has come for the economy to reopen. However, he warned that the US states must take adequate precautionary measures related to social distancing. The other worst-affected countries are Russia (326,448 infection cases and 3,249 deaths), UK (255,544 infection cases and 36,475 deaths), Spain (234,824 infection cases and 28,628 deaths), and Italy (228,658 infection cases and 32,616 deaths). China’s National Health Commission has said that there are no new confirmed cases of infections on May 22. It is the first time since the start of COVID-19 infection cases that China has reported no daily rise in the coronavirus cases in China.
