Bahraini activist sentenced to three-year term
December 5 , 2014
Zainab al-Khawaja, a prominent pro-democracy campaigner in Bahrain, was sentenced to a three-year jail term for tearing King Hamad’s photograph, according to media reports.
If she agrees to pay a fine, she can remain at liberty till her appeal.
Khawaja, who faces other cases too, would become a "a prisoner of conscience" in case she is jailed, Amnesty International said. The rights group has called for quashing of all convictions and dropping of all outstanding charges against her.
