Azerbaijan and Armenia Accuse Each other of Violating Ceasefire
October 11 , 2020
A day after Russia brokered a ceasefire between Azerbaijan and Armenia regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh region, both sides accused each other of ceasefire violations as well as crimes against civilians. Azerbaijan made the first claim that it had carried out airstrikes against an ethnic Armenian regiment on Sunday that reportedly inflicted heavy losses to the Armenians in the Nagorno-Karabakh region. Reports say that Azerbaijan resorted to the airstrikes after Armenia allegedly heavily shelled a residential area in Ganja early morning on Sunday, allegedly killing 9 people and wounding 34 others. However, a spokesperson for the leader of Nagorno-Karabakh said that he doesn’t have any information about the alleged attack. The Armenian defense ministry called the Azeri allegations “an absolute lie” and in turn accused Azerbaijan of shelling populated areas inside Karabakh including the biggest city of the region, Stepanakert.
