Australian Authorities Foil Airplane Terrorist Plot, 4 Arrested

  • At a news conference in Sydney on Sunday, Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull announced that Australian Federal Police and New South Wales Police Force had raided four Sydney suburbs to arrest 4 persons, foiling an elaborate conspiracy to bring down an airplane with an "improvised device”. Australian Federal Police Commissioner Andrew Colvin told media that the 4 arrested are currently in police custody but are yet to be charged as investigation is ongoing. Police has reportedly called it an Islamist-inspired terrorist plot but haven’t yet specified any terrorist group. Security has been beefed up in Sydney Airport and other major airports in Australia.
