Armenia: Thousands protest against hike in electricity prices
June 24 , 2015
Thousands of protesters in Armenia’s capital Yerevan have rallied against rising electricity prices, with a group even attempting to march to the president’s residence.
The demonstrations were against the decision to hike household electricity prices by 17 to 22 percent from August 1.
The Russian firm that owns the country’s electricity network said that the price increase was required following a fall in currency value.
Russia said that the Kremlin was closely following the Armenian protests.
