Argentina flash floods death toll rises
April 6 , 2013
Around 57 people are known to have died after one of the heaviest storms recorded caused flash floods in Argentina earlier this week.
The worst hit is the city of La Plata, where 51 people were killed. Six people also lost their lives in the capital Buenos Aires. Hundreds more were injured and remain homeless.
According to officials, many victims drowned as they tried to flee to rooftops and treetops and were electrocuted.
The government has declared three days of national mourning after what it called "an unprecedented catastrophe".
Although the torrential showers have stopped and the waters completely receded, electricity is yet to be restored.
