Alexei A. Navalny faces 6 years in jail

  • Mr. Navalny is the most prominent opposition figure in modern Russia to face prosecution. He has accused the Kremlin of pursuing trumped-up charges as political retribution and even though he has denied the allegations, he has also said that he expects to be convicted in the trial being streamed live online from Kirov.

Mr. Navalny has said he hopes one day to be president but conviction to criminal charges will barr him from seeking office and being a threat to Vladimir Putin. He will be imprisoned until after the next presidential election.

The verdict is to be delivered July 18.
