Al-Qaida's South Asian affiliate claims responsibility for assassinations of bloggers

  • Al-Qaida’s South Asia affiliate has claimed responsibility for several murders in the region, including that of a number of bloggers.

A video released by the al-Qaida in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS), which was formed last year, says that the group has assassinated “several blasphemers of the Prophet and insulters of Islamic law”.

Two Bangladeshi bloggers, Avijit Roy and Washiqur Rahman, have been killed this year.

AQIS leader Maulana Asim Umar said that the “blasphemers” had been taught a lesson from France to Bangladesh.
