Airline makes fun of Toronto mayor
November 16 , 2013
Spirit Airlines made fun of Toronto's mayor Rob Ford in order to promote a cheap fare to Toronto.
"We're not smoking crack," the ad reads.
It doesn't show Ford's photo but a silhouette, which looks exactly like Rob Ford and the ad even has the word "Record" at the bottom, probably referring to his crack-smoking video.
According to the Toronto Star, Spirit Airlines thrives on such controversies to promote its low cost seats. Reports suggest that doing so might not even be necessary since such jokes are not making its customers like the airline any more.
Considering that the company's revenues continue to skyrocket, it could essentially choose to stop capitalizing on controversies such as this one.
