Aid to rebel-controlled areas in Syria gets UN security council approval
July 15 , 2014
The United Nations security council has agreed to authorize humanitarian aid delivery to areas of Syria that are under rebel control.
This unanimous vote, without the Syrian regime’s approval, will bring food to nearly 1.3 million people caught in the fighting in some of the hardest hit areas.
“This resolution is aimed at breaking the regime’s stranglehold on aid supplies,” William Hague, the outgoing British foreign secretary, said.
The resolution has been welcomed by aid and charity groups.
