After much delay, Haiti announces dates for elections

  • After several delays, which triggered major protests, Haiti has announced dates for elections.

The country’s electoral council said that the polls for two-third seats in the chamber of deputies and senate would be held on August 9, while municipal and presidential elections would be held on October 25.

The Constitution bars president Michel Martelly from seeking another term.

Haiti, one of the world’s poorest countries, does not have a functioning government since January when the Parliament was dissolved.
