May 5 , 2017
As per reports, about 200 prisoners escaped an overcrowded jail on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. Many of them were later brought back. However, some of them are still on the run.
Roadblocks have been set up by the police around the city as they are looking for other escapees.
The inmates reportedly broke out the jail after they were let out of cells for Friday prayers.
Reports also say that there were only five or six guards on duty in the jail for at least 1,900 inmates. The prison was supposed to hold only 300 convicts.
Sources mentioned that at least hundreds of police officers as well as military personnel have now been deployed in order to guard the jail.
