9/11 families can now sue Saudi Arabia
December 21 , 2013
Families of the victims of 9/11 can now sue Saudi Arabia for its support to al-Qaeda before the attacks.
The 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals said it would be in "the interests of justice" if the suit goes forward. The lawsuits, which are seeking billions in damages, were set in motion on behalf of the families affected as well as the insurance companies who paid their claims.
According to the AP, the plaintiffs say they support the 9-11 Commission's report, according to which al-Qaeda mainly got its funds from Saudi Arabia. On the other hand, lawyers for the kingdom state that there is no evidence, which proves that the government played any such direct role.
